Play School and Foundation Stage 1 (FS1)
Curriculum
Learning in the Foundation Stage is fun and curriculum objectives are achieved through purposeful, well-planned play and practical activities. In line with the National Curriculum for England, children between the ages of 3 and 5 follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. This curriculum is specifically designed to meet the needs of this age group and to prepare pupils for entry into Key Stage 1. Pupils work towards the achievement of the Early Learning Goals.
A team of caring, dedicated educators:
A dedicated team of experienced teachers and full time teaching assistants care for PS and FS1 pupils. The ratio of adults to pupils ensures that every pupil has a number of known and trusted adults to support their learning and welfare needs at every moment during the school day.
Caring for every student’s welfare
Through careful planning and organization of the learning environment, teachers and assistants ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed academically and socially. Self-esteem and confidence are nurtured so that children become active learners.
Stimulating resources to support learning
EYFS pupils enjoy a large, bright open-plan area equipped with colourful furnishings and stimulating resources.
Why enrolling in FS1 is vital to your child’s success
?
The Foundation Stage of education is a crucial time and we urge parents to consider the advantages of enrolling their 3 year olds in a setting which follows the UK government’s guidance ‘Development Matters in the Early Years’. Children who do not join the school until FS2 miss out on this vital first year. It is a time of rapid growth, when pupils are developing physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially, as well as acquiring positive attitudes towards school and the love of learning which underpins a successful school career.
Foundation Stage 2 (FS2)
Curriculum
In line with the National Curriculum for England, children between the ages of 5 and 6 follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum which is specifically designed to meet the needs of this age group and to prepare them for entry to Key Stage 1. Pupils work towards the achievement of the Early Learning Goals.
Learning in FS2 is fun and curriculum objectives are achieved through purposeful, well-planned play, practical activities and more formal lessons. English Language is central and children are encouraged to talk through their activities to extend vocabulary and explore ideas. Pupils learn to read and write confidently using the ‘Phonics’ programme. Early mathematics skills are developed and cross-curricular topics which foster knowledge and understanding of the world are all brought alive through practical hands-on experience.
Stimulating resources to support learning
FS2 classes are based in large, colourful classrooms. All pupils have access to the school playgrounds, and adventure play areas which challenge and develop their gross motor skills.
Experienced, caring staff
Every class has an experienced teacher and a full-time teaching assistant. Through careful planning and organization of the learning environment, Foundation Stage teachers and assistants ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed academically and socially.
Looking after the welfare of every child
Self-esteem and confidence are nurtured so that children become motivated and active learners. Through the introduction of the ‘Golden Rules’ a caring community is created where pupils learn to care for themselves, others and the school environment. This is a significant time for our pupils since the foundations are being laid upon which the rest of their education will build.
